Print Quality Problems:

the toner/drum unit

wipe excess toner dust from the toner area
- Lightly shake the toner/drum unit to
loosen the toner.
- Clean the
Corona Wire
- Close the lid and print a test page.
If problems continue, please call IT or
SOS TACO.
2 things to Notice:
If you have lines down or across the page, look for the folling:
- If the line is vertical/down the
page...
Pull the toner/drum unit and look on the drum roller. (Green roller;
be careful, this roller is sensitive to light, finger oils, and
scratches. If the drum roller has a matching toner line on it, then
the problem is with the toner or drum. Carefully wipe away the
toner. If the problem persists, replace the toner and drum
sequentially. If there is no line on the drum roller, the problem is
likely with the hot fuser roller inside the printer. This will
require helpdesk support.
- If the line is horizontal/across the
page and repeats down the page...
Roll the paper to where the top of the page meets the first line.
This will make a cylinder shape the same diameter as the roller
causing the problem. Likely culprits:
If the roll is small (about 1/2"), it may be the transfer roller
which is under the drum and may be able to be replaced.
If it is larger (about 1 1/2"), it is probably the drum roller.
Remove the drum and compare the roll to the drum roller. If they are
the same size, then the drum is the problem.
If it is medium size, it is likely the fuser roller inside the
printer.
Give this information when speaking to support.

To change toner:
The replaceable unit in the printer is a
2-piece, drum and toner unit.
- The toner cartridge is the
flat unit that snaps into the drum carriage unit.
- The drum is the larger piece that
holds the toner, controls the toner release, and applies the toner
to the paper with the drum roller.
To replace the toner:
- Open the front lid
- Pull the entire drum unit out of the
printer
- Flip the blue lever back to release
the old toner cartridge and lift the cartridge out
- Shake the new toner cartridge back
and forth to loosen the toner.
- Remove any tabs or protective covers (read instructions
with new toner cartridge)
- Insert the front of the toner cartridge into the
drum and snap down
- Push the blue lever on the side to
start the flow of toner.
